The Superintendent of Elections & Commissioner of Registration is appointed by the Governor, with Senatorial consent, for a term of five years. The Superintendent of Elections works under the direction of the Secretary of State and receives guidance from the Attorney General’s Office, according to NJSA Election law Title 19.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Superintendent of Elections is the custodian of all voting machines and poll books for the County of Hudson.

Machine & poll book preparation, delivery, and safe returns are coordinated by this office.  The Superintendent of Elections Office has a dedicated crew of Machine & Poll Book Technicians, working to ensure that the tools for voting are ready for elections and maintained post-elections. We have 789 total voting machines and 1,098 poll books, now digital ‘tablets’ to maintain and deliver countywide.

The Superintendent of Elections also serves as the Commissioner of Registrations, managing all voter registrations and voter history for the County of Hudson.

The Superintendent’s Team is responsible for executing all new voter registrations, change of residence applications, and party affiliation designations and/or changes.  Upon confirmation of a new registration, the office issues voter acknowledgment cards by mail.

The Superintendent of Elections is responsible for enforcing all election laws, per NJSA Title 19 and has a team of investigators dedicated to examining voting discrepancies/irregularities.

Investigators review registration records to assure continued voter eligibility and follow up on reports of irregularities.  Investigators are deployed countywide during elections to ensure accessibility.

Conducts mock elections.

The Hudson County Superintendent of Elections provides voting machines to schools and organizations, upon request, to conduct ‘Mock Elections’ if/when time and resources are available and do not interfere with regularly scheduled elections activities. Requests for mock elections must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance for scheduling consideration.
